Greetings all you rippers, shred-heads, and fellow kayakists! This long overdue update has…well, been a long time coming. Last year was a very big and busy year for me, but unfortunately with little regard to kayaking. In fact, I spent less time in a kayak last year than I can remember since I began paddling. Luckily we are blessed with many awesome creeks in western North Carolina, so I was able to crowd a few high-quality days of kayaking onto my already full plate of things to do.
My big goal as of late has been finishing nursing school. This time last year, the tempo with school kicked up another notch, and I found myself pretty stretched between responsibilities and being able to go kayaking. I made it through, graduated, then faced a new, equally daunting goal, the NCLEX-RN exam. This test determines who becomes a Registered Nurse in the U.S. , and has crushed a lot of hopes and dreams of working in healthcare. I studied, and studied, studied…you get the picture….but I made it through this obstacle too. Now, in an attempt to shorten a long story, I have recently landed a job in Asheville, NC at Mission St. Joseph’s Hospital, as an RN! My hospital and new unit (Orthopedics) are the busiest surgical facilities in the State of North Carolina, and are a regional leader in Orthopedic Medicine/Surgery. Needless to say, I’m beyond stoked to have received such an awesome opportunity to begin my career! Now, aside from the few kayaking trips I mentioned, that was my 2010. Finally, I’d like to offer a sincere thanks to Tom at Shred Ready for his continued support this year.
Onto the good stuff. Stay tuned for some fun things in 2011….
