What person do you respect the most? My mom and dad together.

Who is your favorite superhero? Beatrix Kiddo

What are some things that motivate you? Expeditions, my sister, and rain.

What sports do you enjoy watching or participating in besides your main sport?

Snowboarding…

I love watching Boarder Cross. I ride a lot but have never competed in this kind of race. I hope I get to try it someday.

When I can’t go kayaking…

Skateboarding and yoga are two activities I have picked up this year out of necessity. You can do them in your backyard, and they require drive and focus while strengthening your mind and body, much like kayaking.

Windsurfing…

My dad gets fired up when the wind is up; I’d like to go windsurfing with him some day.

Something new…

I love running (off the pavement) and so I always thought it would be cool if there was an international rock-hopping race series, with mass-start races and dynamic move courses on sick terrain.

What is one of your most memorable experiences while participating in your sport? Watching my friend (and team mate) Bianca Heinrich fly out of the sky in our relay exchange in the RedBull Divide and Conquer Race, summer 2005. She was the paragliding leg, and passed a bunch of boys in the air on her way to me. I was ecstatic. Little did I know I was about to experience the most physically grueling and mentally tough kayak race I’ve ever participated in, paddling 25 miles of the Upper Animas River. The whole experience was incredible and totally worth it.

What's the best trip you've ever been on? Six days on the Middle Kings Canyon.

What goals are you working towards right now? My main goal is to focus on the process and enjoy it, day to day, one breath at a time, one boof stroke at a time.

Why are athlete bios always so lame? As soon as you write them, they are outdated. They capture the past, but to be a good athlete you’ve got to throw away the past and the future and live in the present.
