Shred Ready and KEM STUDIO Honored with IDEA Silver Award
Shred Ready’s paddlesport helmet, the Zeta, wins a 2019 IDEA Silver in the Sports, Leisure & Recreation category.
SALIDA, Colorado – August 23, 2019 – Shred Ready, a leader in protective helmets for water and snow sports and KEM STUDIO, a design firm fusing architecture and industrial design, are proud to announce
Zeta has won a 2019 IDEA (International Design Excellence Award) in the Sports, Leisure & Recreation category.
The Zeta is a paddlesports helmet designed by KEM STUDIO for Shred Ready to seamlessly blend beauty, performance, simplicity and of course, a little attitude. It is inspired by the style and swagger of sports athletes during the late 1960s, like Roberto Clemente and Muhammad Ali. Like them, Zeta was designed
to be unique inside and out. The LRP™ (light reflection protection) minimizes glare, temple guards are die cast in aluminum for better protection and advanced materials lend a more comfortable and less bulky fit, similar to a baseball cap. Zeta may be the first helmet that you don’t rush to take off.
Shred Ready CEO, Tom Sherburne, comments, “As a Silver IDEA winner, we are thrilled that Zeta will become part of The Henry Ford Museum’s permanent collection.”
Co-Founder of KEM STUDIO, Jonathon Kemnitzer, adds, “IDEA is one of the premier design awards programs and we are honored that Zeta was one of 101 winners selected out of over 1,600 world wide entries, and of those only 33 were designated as a Silver winner.”
Features of the helmet include:
• A slim, comfortable design maximized for protection.
• DCLAN foam which is soft and comfortable in its normal state but stiffens on impact to direct
energy away from the user’s head.
• BOA single hand adjustable lock utilizing the BOA reel and lacing system.
• Temple guards cast in aluminum, rather than plastic, for better protection.
• Light deflection paint on the underside of the brim to reduce glare.
• A bottle opener on the strap slider, for usability off the river as well.
A portion of each sale of the Zeta helmet will be donated to American Whitewater and Futaleufu Riverkeeper, two amazing organizations dedicated to the protection and conservation of our watersheds
and surrounding areas.
Organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), IDEA is one of the wold’s most prestigious and rigorous design competitions. With thousands of yearly worldwide entries IDEA has set the benchmark for what a design award represents and has endured to become a career-defining catalyst
for those talented enough to win. Through a close partnership with The Henry Ford Museum, IDEA winners become part of its permanent collection and remain an ever-present symbol of ingenuity and mastery of craft.
